The “29th Lusofonia Festival” will take place at the Taipa Houses from 23 to 25 October, with the focus on Brazilian culture, featuring 40 local Lusophone artists as well as performers from Brazil, Equatorial Guinea and East Timor, who will perform on the festival’s two stages, according to a press conference (pictured) held earlier this week.
Furthermore, the promotion of Brazilian culture will be carried out through gastronomy and urban painting art, according to Macau’s Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC).
Bringing together the charms of various countries and regions, the festival will feature the participation of local Portuguese-speaking communities from Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Goa, Daman and Diu, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, East Timor, as well as the Macanese community through their cultural exhibitors who will share their music, crafts, gastronomy, customs, tourist information and other aspects of their culture.
The event will also include the Portuguese Traditional Games, football game, and recreational games for children, allowing the public to experience the recreational culture of various regions of Portugal.
Meanwhile, the festival is held in parallel with the “8th Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries”, which runs from October to December.
Organised by IC and supported by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM), TDM Macau and Air Macau, this year’s “Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries” also features traditional music and dance performances in the community, a picture book fair, concerts, a film festival and an annual arts exhibition between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries, among other activities.
Nearly 690 artists and performers from home and abroad will present nearly 50 outstanding programmes across community spaces and modern theatres throughout the three-month festival.
As one of the highlights, renowned Mozambican singer Stewart Sukuma will perform with the Macao Chinese Orchestra (MCO), promoting the charm of intercultural musical fusion, on 14 December. The concert will also feature MCO Music Director and Principal Conductor Zhang Lie.
