The Macau SAR Government has warned the public of a fraudulent website claiming to represent Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai.
The fraudulent website, which is in English language, uses a deceptive domain name and incorporates the photograph and name of the chief executive, according to the Government Information Bureau (GCS).
The government has clarified the said website is not an official platform, urging the public to remain vigilant and refrain from accessing the link, in order to safeguard their personal data and cybersecurity.
Furthermore, the government has pointed out that the only official website of the chief executive is the website of the Office of the Chief Executive, accessible at https://www.gce.gov.mo/ and available in the SAR’s only two official languages – Chinese and Portuguese.
Additionally, Sam (pictured) launched on 1 October a personal blog, which is hosted as a dedicated column within the Office of the Chief Executive’s website, according to GCS.
The fraudulent website incident has been reported to the Judiciary Police for follow-up. The government further advises that if members of the public have any doubts about websites or messages purportedly issued in the name of Macau SAR Government officials or departments, they should verify the information directly through the official contact channels of the relevant government entities.
Anyone who suspects they have encountered online fraud or identified a fraudulent website is urged to report it immediately to the police, either by calling the Judiciary Police’s Anti-Scam Inquiry Hotline on 8800 7777 or the emergency hotline on 993 for assistance.
