The current typhoon signal no. 8 in Macau will be downgraded to signal no. 3 at 3 pm as Tropical Cyclone Tapah has made landfall in the Guangdong city of Taishan and is gradually moving away from the SAR, the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) has announced on its website.
According to the website, local winds will gradually weaken in the afternoon but there will still be occasional heavy showers and thunderstorms due to Tapah’s outer rainbands, with the wind in Macau expected to occasionally reach force 7 to 8 with strong gusts.
Meanwhile, all storm surge warnings were cancelled at noon as the tide level receded. This morning, the tide level reached 3.7 metres due to the combined effect of astronomical high tide. For more information about the local weather visit SMG’s website. – GNM
