The current Typhoon Signal No. 8 will remain in force before 2 am tomorrow (24 September), with a high possibility Macau’s Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) raising it to Signal No. 9 between 2-4 am, while the possibility of Signal No. 10 being issued between 4-7 am is also high, according to the bureau’s website.
Meanwhile, the red storm surge warning is still in force as the weather bureau warns that flooding will occur in Macau’s low-lying areas between 6 am and 6 pm today. The bureau has also pointed out that flooding will reach the highest level – about 1.5-2.5 metres – between 10 am and 2 pm during the day.
As of 11 pm, Super Typhoon Ragasa was estimated to be about 250km southeast of Macau and forecast to move west-northwest at around 20km/h towards the western coast of the Pearl River Estuary, according to SMG.
Due to the typhoon, the world’s strongest storm of the year, a total of 128 flights scheduled to be operating through the Macau International Airport tomorrow have been cancelled, according to the city’s Civic Aviation Authority.
In addition, the Civil Protection Operations Centre has so far recorded a total of four incident reports involving four cases of “concrete, signboards, windows, canopies, or other objects fallen or swinging” and one case of “number of persons injured due to the typhoon” (based on the data from Health Bureau and Kiang Wu Hospital).
