The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) may replace the current Typhoon Signal No. 8 with Signal No. 3 between 9 pm and midnight “depending on the situation”, the bureau has announced on its website.
According to the weather bureau, Typhoon Ragasa made landfall (pictured) at Yangjiang, Guangdong at 6 pm and is gradually moving away from Macau. The wind in Macau is expected to gradually weaken to moderate this evening but there will still be frequent heavy showers and thunderstorms tonight.
The current water level has receded but, due to the storm surge remaining high, SMG will cancel all storm surge warnings only when the flooding risk is lifted.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Bualoi has entered into the Philippines Area of Responsibility (PAR), where the storm is known as Opong, moving towards the Southeast Asian country and is forecast to head towards China’s Hainan Island.
Based on the current forecast, at 2 pm today, Bualoi was estimated to be about 2,360km southeast of Macau and is forecast to move west at around 15km/h. However, SMG has not given further details on Bualoi, such as the forecast typhoon signals or how significant the impact will be. (Gilbert Humphrey)
