A Tropical Depression formed east of the Philippines is expected to turn into a tropical cyclone tomorrow (2 October), when it is forecast to begin approaching the northern part of Luzon, while Macau’s weather authorities have announced a typhoon signal no. 1 will be issued closer to the weekend.
Named “Paolo” in the Philippines, the tropical depression is predicted to make landfall over Isabela or Northern Aurora in the Southeast Asian country on Friday, according to various media reports.
Paolo is expected to head towards the area between Macau and Hainan Island, based on the current forecast, as shown in the Actual Tropical Cyclone Track on the website of Macau’s Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG).
According to SMG, as of 11 am today, Paolo was estimated to be about 2,110km east-southeast of Macau to the east of the Philippines, and it was forecast to move northwest at around 20km/h towards the Philippines.
Based on the current track (pictured), the tropical depression is expected to turn into a severe tropical cyclone and typhoon as it moves closer to Macau and the surrounding areas at the weekends.
Furthermore, it is expected to enter within 800 kilometres of Macau from Friday evening to the early hours of Saturday (4 October). At that time, a Tropical Cyclone Signal No. 1 will be issued, according to the local weather bureau.
