The Macau SAR Government launched the “Scheme for Supporting the Development of Macao First-Store Economy”, better-known as the “First-Store Economy Scheme”, in November 2025 to enrich the city’s tourism appeal and boost the community economy.
The scheme aims to attract renowned overseas brands – including from mainland China and Hong Kong – to open their first stores in Macau. Through combined funding, the scheme guides these first stores to stimulate local community economic growth and create employment opportunities for residents, according to the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM).
The application deadline for this first phase is 31 January, with 13 applications have so far been received since the scheme’s launch. The second phase will accept applications from 1 May to 31 July. For more information visit IPIM’s website. – GNM
