A total of 61 students have become winners in the second edition of the Macao-wide English Essay Competitions (MEEC), which was joined by 1,000 students from 46 schools and universities in Macau. The awards ceremony took place at the Macao Science Center recently. Organised by the Macao Professional Speaking Association (MPSA), the MEEC was launched in 2021, aiming to push local students’ English writing skills while they get to learn more about the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), such as climate change and poverty, among others. Every year, participants write around the SDG topics. This year’s competition was themed “An Inclusive World”. MPSA Executive Vice President and MEEC Chairperson Sandy Leong said, “For us [organisers], when we see the students shining on stage, that’s when we know we are doing something important and good for our community.”
