Philippine Foreign Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega said recently that there were 17 Filipinos among the cargo ship crew held hostage in the Red Sea by Yemen rebel group Houthi. The rebel group is reported to have seized the ship, Galaxy Leader, on 19 November.
Meanwhile, two Philippine nationals are believed to still be among those held hostage by Palestinian militant group Hamas following its attack on Israel on 7 October, according to several media reports. Israel has since retaliated against the attack.
