When Japan Airlines Flight 516 collided with a coast-guard plane upon landing at Haneda Airport in Tokyo earlier this week, some onlookers from the airport terminals and observation decks perhaps thought many passengers would not have made it as they watched the plane engulfing in flames.
Miraculously, all 379 people on board were able to evacuate the plane before the flames intensified. Experts in the aviation industry have since praised the plane’s crew for professionally carrying out the evacuation procedure under intense pressure and the passengers for following the instructions to leave their belongings on board, with footage showing none of them carrying luggage – which could have slowed down the evacuation process – as they left the plane down an inflatable slide, according to a report by Business Insider.
