This year’s second APEC Business Advisory Council Meeting (ABAC) will be held in Hong Kong from tomorrow until Thursday, on which day ABAC 2024 Chair Julia Torreblanca will present the results of this second meeting, according to event’s host Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC).
ABAC members from all APEC member economies will attend the meeting to discuss a wide range of issues in the Asia-Pacific region, including but not limited to regional economic integration, sustainability, human development and the digital economy.
The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders endorsed ABAC’s establishment in November 1995. It was officially established in 1996, with the key role of advising APEC on business-sector priorities and responding to requests from APEC fora for business perspectives on different areas.
Furthermore, ABAC presents annual reports to APEC Economic Leaders, which contain recommendations for improving business conditions, expanding trade, as well as facilitating and liberalising investment in the region and more.
Mainland China and Hong Kong are APEC members, while Macau has been reported to have applied for membership. (Gilbert Humphrey)
