Pope Francis is scheduled to start his Jakarta visit on 3 September, and he will be meeting with various Indonesian religious leaders and representatives at the famous Istiqlal Mosque in the Indonesian capital on 5 September.
The 9-hectare Istiqlal Mosque is Southeast Asia’s largest as well as the world’s ninth largest mosque based on the capacity. It is located right next to the Jakarta Cathedral, the seat of the Roman Catholic archbishop of Jakarta.
During his visit to Indonesia, the 87-year-old pope will meet with President Joko Widodo on 4 September. He is also scheduled to visit the neighbouring countries, comprising Singapore, Timor Leste and Papua New Guinea, according to various media reports.
