The City of Dreams (COD) Macau launched an exhibition titled “Crowning Journey” in September, showcasing late American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat’s rise from being a street artist to becoming one of the world’s most influential artists of the 20th century through large-scale installations, multimedia, as well as immersive and interactive multi-dimensional experiences.

The exhibition is presented across COD Macau’s four major areas: The Main Portal, Southwest Entrance (outdoor area), The Showroom and Artelli – The Pioneering Multi-dimensional Art Space, inviting the audience to explore Basquiat’s thoughts and ideas.

Basquiat’s art career spanned the late 1970s through the 1980s until his demise in 1988, at the age of 27. His works are known to be edgy and raw, and through a bold sense of colour and composition, he maintained a fine balance between seemingly contradictory forces like control and spontaneity, menace and wit, urban imagery and primitivism. His works embody the values and aspirations of a young and international urban culture, according to COD Macau.

The ”Crowning Journey” showcase will run until 24 November. For more information visit COD Macau’s website
