Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) Rector Marcus Im (pictured, right) recently spoke at the Times Higher Education (THE) Global AI Forum held at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, during which he shared insights on interdisciplinary education as a burgeoning trend for nurturing talent, along with the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on higher education.
Distinguished scholars from across the globe attended the event to exchange ideas on higher education paradigms, technological innovations and strategic partnerships, according to a press release issued by MPU.
Other guest speakers in the event were The University of Hong Kong President and Vice-Chancellor Xiang Zhang, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Council Chairman Harry Shum, University of Auckland Vice-Chancellor Dawn Freshwater and Royal College of Art President Christoph Lindner.
Im highlighted the pivotal role of interdisciplinary approaches in both teaching and research as an emerging of talent development in global higher education.
By fostering collaborative partnerships with universities, industries and governmental bodies, MPU aims to drive synergies that advance social sustainability, said IM, who also pointed out that noteworthy advancements have been made in integrating AI technologies across various academic disciplines at MPU, focusing on drug discovery, machine translation, language learning and environmental management.
Globally, MPU is ranked 301st to 400th in overall rankings of the latest THE World University Impact Rankings.
