Paris Hilton, Milo Ventimiglia, Mel Gibson and Anthony Hopkins are among the celebrities who have lost their multimillion-dollar homes to the ongoing California wildfires that began on 7 January.
Hilton had to find out about her house while watching the news. “Sitting with my family, watching the news, and seeing our home in Malibu burn to the ground on live TV is something no one should ever have to experience,” she said on social media platform X.
Upon visiting her burned-down home, Hilton said in her Instagram post, “When I first saw the news, I was in complete shock – I couldn’t process it. But now, standing here and seeing it with my own eyes, it feels like my heart has shattered into a million pieces.”
She added, “And yet, in this pain, I know I’m incredibly lucky. My loved ones, my babies, and my pets are safe,” before pointing out, “And to everyone going through this pain, please know you’re not alone.”
In an interview with CBS News, Ventimiglia said: “You start thinking about all the memories and the different parts of the house and whatnot and then you see your neighbours’ houses and everything around and your heart just breaks.”
Other celebrities whose houses have been burned to the ground include Adam Brody and Leighton Meester, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, Bryan Greenberg and Jamie Chung, Anna Faris, Cary Elwes, Melissa Rivers, James Woods, Cameron Mathison, Miles Teller, Eugene Levy, Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Diane Warren, Jhene Aiko, Ricki Lake and Beyonce’s mother Tina Knowles.
The wildfires have particularly affected the Los Angeles metropolitan area and its surrounding regions, forcing around 179,000 people to evacuate and damaging over 13,400 structures – most of the damage has been done by the Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire. These series of catastrophic wildfires have so far resulted in at least 11 casualties, with several burn injuries.
