Local authorities will launch a citywide clean-up campaign today, with an inauguration ceremony slated to take place at Iao Hon Market Park at 4 pm, according to the city’s Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM).
Representatives from IAM, Economic and Technological Development Bureau, Macao Government Tourism Office, Health Bureau, Land and Urban Construction Bureau, Public Works Bureau, Environmental Protection Bureau, as well as other departments and associations are expected to participate in the inauguration ceremony.
This citywide clean-up campaign driven by the city beautification and cleaning working group is going to launch a series of activities, with representatives from multiple government departments, associations and organisations to jointly take part in community and beach clean-up activities, inspect “three no’s” buildings for their hygiene issues, strengthen inspections of construction sites and food processing plants, as well as give environmental hygiene education in the community through roving exhibitions, consulting street kiosks and themed talks.
The so-called “three no’s” buildings are those with “no owner committee, no resident organisation and no management entity”.
Various sectors in the city are encouraged to make a concerted effort to raise concern about city beautification and cleaning and collectively create a cleaner and more pleasant living environment, IAM pointed out in a press release.
After this afternoon’s inauguration ceremony, multiple teams will be formed to conduct community outreach at nearby neighbourhoods and distribute promotional materials to the residents, buildings’ management staff and occupants, people in charge of businesses, among others, to enhance public awareness of environmental hygiene.
At the same time, relevant functional departments will go to food establishments, food processing plants and construction sites to urge the people in charge of those establishments to implement effective hygiene management measures and maintain a clean and hygienic community, according to IAM.
Meanwhile, the city beautification and cleaning working group will hold the “Beautiful and Clean Beach – Take Your Trash with You” activities concurrently at Hac Sá Beach and Cheoc Van Beach on 9 May, inviting representatives from different departments to clean up trash together. The actions are hoped to raise public awareness of environmental protection. Multiple booth games will be provided at Hac Sá Beach in the afternoon of the clean-up day to promote a series of information on environmental hygiene. Residents are welcome to bring their children to participate in the games.
Furthermore, the interdepartmental group and associations will conduct inspections of Macau’s “three no’s” buildings and actively intervene in the cases with public hygiene problems. The key inspection areas will include Iao Hon, Areia Preta, Fai Chi Kei, Praia do Manduco, and Porto Interior.
In addition, residents of low-rise buildings will be arranged to attend talks on rodent and mosquito prevention and control and environmental hygiene to encourage them to take the initiative to implement various hygiene measures effectively.
Moreover, the interdepartmental group will set up roving photo exhibitions in various neighbourhoods from 28 March to 30 April, to introduce a series of environmental hygiene information. On Saturdays and Sundays during the above-mentioned period, there will be consulting street kiosks on site to collect opinions and provide the residents with technical instructions on rodent control.
Themed booth games will also be set up at the venues to promote information on rodent prevention and mosquito control, prohibition on feeding stray animals indiscriminately, and disposal methods of domestic solid waste. Details of the activities can be found via the Environment Information Webpage.
The citywide clean-up campaign is fully promoted by all member departments of the city beautification and cleaning working group. Participating associations also include the Macao Federation of Trade Unions, União Geral das Associações dos Moradores de Macau, the Women’s General Association of Macau, Aliança de Povo de Instituição de Macau, the Property Management Business Association Macao, the General Association of Macao Cleaning Service Industry, as well as the Macau Residue System Company, Ltd.
