Macau’s Judiciary Police (PJ) has received some complaints from residents lately regarding alleged renovation scams. The complainants said they employed workers through online platforms to renovate their homes and solve leakage problems. Once the renovation began, the workers would make some excuses like the location of leakage, more materials are needed, or the raw materials’ prices have changed to increase the price they quoted in the first place. They also refused to follow up on the renovation work, leading victims to suspect they have fallen victims of a renovation scam.
The authorities are reminding the public to employ construction companies registered in Macau to carry out renovation work and always sign a contract detailing all terms and conditions before work commences. Should the public suspect any fraud, extortion or scam, contact PJ’s crime report hotline (993) or the anti-scam hotline (8800 7777) immediately.
