MGM is currently presenting the “Valkyrie Miss Dior” installation by contemporary Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos as part of Macau’s ongoing “Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2023 (Art Macao)”. The installation is exhibited at The Spectacle in MGM Cotai until 8 October.

The masterpiece is the latest artwork in the Valkyrie series, following the limited time appearances at the Dior autumn-winter 2023-2024 Ready-to-Wear show in Paris and Shenzhen. In addition, the exhibition is the latest edition of MGM’s World Art Exchange Program.

Inspired by Valkyrie in the Norse mythology, the powerful and brave feminine figures, the artwork is crafted in an organic form and interacts harmoniously with the architecture. Measuring 24 metres long and seven metres tall, the artwork is meticulously crafted using various handcraft techniques like sewing, knitting, crochet, and composed of vibrant fabrics, lace, embroidery, sequins, feather, LED lights and more materials.

In 2015, Vasconcelos created the installation art “Valkyrie Octopus” especially for MGM Macau, which is the largest work in the Valkyrie series. From Macau, the Valkyrie Octopus is travelling to Lisbon to be displayed in an exhibition at the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology from September 2023 to March 2024, serving as a cultural ambassador facilitating China-Portugal exchanges.
