Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who is Indonesian President Joko Widodo’s eldest son, was recently announced as the running mate of presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto, the country’s incumbent defence minister, attracting a lot of attention from foreign media. News organisations from around the world have since published various reports on Raka’s appointment, which was already predicted by many Indonesians over the past few weeks. The foreign media groups are now observing Indonesia’s political development ahead of the Southeast Asian nation’s 2024 presidential election.
