A 26-year-old Ukrainian-born model Carolina Shiino has recently become the first naturalised Japanese citizen to win the country’s Miss Nippon Grand Prix beauty pageant. She is also the pageant’s oldest-ever winner when she was crowned the 2024 Miss Nippon. Born in Ukraine in 1998 to Ukrainian parents, Shiino moved to Nagoya, Japan at the age of five with her mother, who remarried a Japanese man. Shiino became a Japanese citizen in 2022. (Wong Kin Ang)
