The “Refreshing Fujian: Starting Point of Maritime Silk Road – Showcase of Intangible Cultural Heritage” was inaugurated at Mount Fortress Garden yesterday, presenting Fujian Province’s traditional folk customs. Presented by the Macau SAR and Fujian Province Governments, the showcase is held to strengthen cultural exchanges and cooperation between Macau and Fujian and is part of the series activities of “Let’s Celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Dragon” organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) and the “Happy Chinese New Year” event of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China.
The Interactive Showcase will be held today and tomorrow at the Mount Fortress Garden, presenting the essence of Fujian’s intangible cultural heritage through music, gastronomy, traditional skills and handicrafts.
In addition, the “Refreshing Fujian: Starting Point of the Maritime Silk Road – Exhibition of Intangible Cultural Heritage” is held from today through 5 May on the third floor of the Macau Museum, displaying nearly 100 pieces or sets of items, which represent Fujian’s intangible cultural heritage, under three different themes, “Sailing on the Maritime Silk Road: A Journey Far Afield”, “Studying the Phenomena of Nature in Pursuit of Knowledge: Carrying Forward Past Traditions into the Future” and “The Fu Culture in Macao: The Cycle of Good Fortune” – including crafts, operas and costumes.
The entire showcase has been organised by IC and the Fujian Province’s Department of Culture and Tourism, and co-organised by Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macau SAR, Federation of Associations of Cultural Sectors of Macau and the Fukien Natives General Association of Macao, with the support from Melco Resorts & Entertainment.
