An ancient music concert, entitled “Mediterraneo”, will be held at the Macao Cultural Centre’s (CCM) Grand Auditorium tomorrow night, featuring L’Arpeggiata’s Baroque ensemble, led by Christina Pluhar, and bringing together an array of great voices and the mood-setting moves of a dancer.
Presented by Macau’s Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), the concert will take the audience back to the roots of old civilisations, with its music crossing over cultural traces of antiquity as it “sails” between Turkey and Portugal while “navigating by the shores” of Greece and Italy.
From the soulfulness of Portuguese Fado music to the unique harmonies of medieval Greek and Italian tunes, the 1.5-hour concert stands as a living proof that the sea, rather than separating, connects hearts and minds, according to a press release from IC.
Founded in 2000 by director and theorboist Pluhar, L’Arpeggiata combines early-music specialists with vocalists from a region musically known as the “olive frontier”. They have over 200,000 records sold and have played in many well-known festivals and concert venues, from London’s Festival of Baroque Music to New York’s Carnegie Hall, among others.
