The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is organising for the first time the “International Cities of Gastronomy Fest, Macao”, which will take place at the Macau Fisherman’s Wharf in Nape from 14-23 June.
The “International Gastronomy Promenade”, “City of Gastronomy Showcase” and “International Gastronomy Forum, Macao” will be three major highlights in the 10-day festival, which is aimed at fostering concerted development between “tourism + gastronomy”, showcasing Macau’s vibrant fascinations as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, radiating the city’s strengths as a platform and reinforcing its status as a world centre of tourism and leisure, according to the tourism office.
The “International Gastronomy Promenade” will be held at the Macau Fisherman’s Wharf’s Roman Amphitheatre Square and Legend Boulevard from 3:30 pm to 10 pm on 14-23 June, focusing on Asian gastronomy and featuring 100 food booths. Catering businesses from six Chinese Creative Cities of Gastronomy (Chengdu, Shunde, Macau, Yangzhou, Huai’an and Chaozhou) and three Asian Creative Cities of Gastronomy (Phuket, Kuching and Iloilo) will present their signature delights and popular delicacies.
In addition, 54 distinctive local catering businesses have been chosen to join this promenade, providing Cantonese, Portuguese, Southeast Asian, Japanese and Korean cuisines, as well as Taiwanese snacks. About 700 seats, a game zone and a seaside bar zone will be set up in this area. There will be Portuguese folk dance and other dance performances, bands and singers and magic shows, among other activities.
For the “City of Gastronomy Showcase”, Macau is inviting chefs from 27 Creative Cities of Gastronomy from around the world, including Macau, to conduct cooking shows for a public audience at the Legend Boulevard during the event. A total of 62 sessions of culinary showcase will be presented – some sampling sessions included.
Meanwhile, the MGTO held “International Gastronomy Forum, Macao” in 2016, 2018 and 2019, offering a valuable exchange platform for Macau and other Creative Cities of Gastronomy under the theme of “Power of Gastronomy”, “The Potential of Gastronomy” and “The Possibilities of Gastronomy and Creativity”, respectively.
This time, the forum will be part of the inaugural gastronomy fest. Themed “Holistic Gastronomy: Eat well, live well”, the upcoming “International Gastronomy Forum, Macao” will be held at the main hall of the Macau Fisherman’s Wharf Convention and Exhibition Centre on 17 June.
Held in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Macau SAR’s establishment, the gastronomy fest is co-organised by the Macao University of Tourism (UTM) and the Industry and Commerce Association of Macau ZAPE, in collaboration with the SAR’s six integrated resort enterprises, with the support of many other entities.
MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes said in a press conference yesterday “International Cities of Gastronomy Fest, Macao” will welcome representatives from 30 Creative Cities of Gastronomy in Asia, Europe, Africa, Oceania, South and North Americas.
During the gastronomy fest, there will be free shuttle bus services from 3:30 pm to 10:30 pm from the Border Gate, Rua do Dr. Pedro José Lobo, Taipa Central Park, MGM Cotai, Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau, Studio City, Galaxy Macau, Wynn Palace and The Venetian Macao to the event venue.
