A total of 37 teams from 20 countries and regions – comprising about 600 students – will participate in the ISF World School Basketball Championship 2024, which will be held in Macau from tomorrow until 3 July, according to Macau’s Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ).
Organised by the International School Sport Federation (ISF) and hosted by DSEDJ, the event will be held at several local venues, including Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion, University of Macau’s (UM) Sports Complex and Mong-Ha Sports Centre.
A total of 117 matches are scheduled to be held during the championship.
Coordinated by the DSEDJ, the Macau Boys’ School Basketball Team and the Macau Girls’ School Basketball Team – each consisting of 12 members – will represent the SAR’s school sector at this year’s ISF World School Basketball Championship 2024.
According to the draw results, the local boys’ and girls’ teams are scheduled to have their first matches against Indian teams on 24 and 25 June, respectively.
Aiming to facilitate cultural exchange among young people from across the world and improve their athletic performance and competitive ability, the ISF World School Basketball Championship has become a major sporting event for secondary school students in the world.
This year’s event is co-hosted by University of Macau (UM) and the Macau-China Basketball Association, and sponsored by Melco Resorts & Entertainment, with the SAR’s Sports Bureau (ID) providing the venues, Li Ning (China) Sports Goods Co. Limited sponsoring athletic apparel and footwear, while China Telecom (Macau) Company Limited and Nam Yue Luen Fung Trading Company Limited providing in-kind support.
Countries and regions taking part in this year’s championship also include Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Chile, mainland China, Cyprus, Czech Republic, France, Greece, Hong Kong, Mexico, Mongolia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Taiwan, Turkey and Uganda.
