The Macanese Association’s (ADM) members-only canteen that closed down during the Covid-19 pandemic has recently reopened for a ten-day trial period, with full resumption scheduled to begin on 20 August, according to a report by TDM.

The canteen had to close down due to some pandemic-related issues, including staff shortage. “Because of Covid and uncertainties, and the kitchen staff just left,” the canteen’s manager, Marina de Senna Fernandes, told the local TV network.

She pointed out that the canteen now has a new kitchen team directly under her training and supervision.

Meanwhile, the association will start a gastronomic cycle in collaboration with other lusophone (Portuguese-speaking) associations, with the aim of deepening the ties of inter-association friendship while introducing the gastronomy and cuisine of other lusophone countries and regions in an informal setting.

Sponsored by the Macau Foundation (FM), this series of gastronomy projects will be held at ADM’s headquarters at Edif. Assoc. Construtores Civis, 4th floor A-D on Rua do Campo.

The first event in this cycle is “Feijoada and Music”, a collaboration with a local Brazilian association (Associação da Casa do Brasil Em Macau), will take place on 20 July, from 6:30 pm to 10 pm. Prices are MOP 280 for members and students, MOP 320 for non-members, and MOP 150 for children aged 3-11.

There will be Coxinha, Quibe, Cheese Bread and Brazilian Feijoada as the main course, as well as Egg Pudding, Celery Pudding and Papaya Cream as dessert, to the sound of samba and caipirinha, according to ADM

After the Brazilian night, the Macanese Association will collaborate with the Núcleo de Animação Cultural de Goa, Damão e Diu to present the gastronomy and cuisine of India’s former Portuguese colonies of Goa, Daman and Diu. For more information visit ADM’s Facebook page. (Gilbert Humphrey)
