The 32nd Macao International Fireworks Display Contest will be held from 7 September to 6 October, in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Macau SAR.
Pyrotechnic companies from 10 countries will be participating in the contest that is set to enrich the “experience of nighttime activities, boost the flow of people and invigorate the community economy, while brightening Macau’s golden calling card as an international metropolis”, according to the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO).
The participating countries this year are Russia, France, Canada, Thailand, Spain, Philippines, China, Italy, Japan and Portugal.
Macau’s six integrated resort companies are partners for this year’s contest, which will dazzle the night sky above the sea from across Macau Tower at 9 pm and 9:40 pm o 7, 14 and 21 September, as well as on 1 and 6 October – each show will be about 18 minutes.
The fireworks displays will be broadcast live on TDM Ou Mun TV Channel and TDM Entertainment TV Channel.
Meanwhile, the event’s Photo Contest will be held in coordination with the Photographic Society of Macao, while the Macau Artist Society is coordinating the Student Drawing Contest. Both contests offer an opportunity for photography enthusiasts and students to bring fireworks to life in the form of artworks. For more information about the photo and drawing contests visit the Fireworks Contest’s official website.
In addition, MGT and the General Union of Neighbours Association of Macau will present the annual event’s popular Fireworks Carnival next to the Macao Science Center’s waterfront from 5-11 pm on each fireworks display evening, featuring culinary delights, performances and games.
Organised by MGTO since 1989, the Macao International Fireworks Display Contest has developed into one of Macau’s most-prestigious events. (Wong Kin Ang)
