Registration period to join in this year’s “929 Challenge” will run through 29 September, with prizes worth over MOP 280,000.
The 929 Challenge is a startup competition focused on building bridges between China and Portuguese-speaking countries through sustainability-oriented business. The core objective of the 929 Challenge is to catalyse startup ideas that forge impactful connections between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, according to the 929 Challenge’s official website.
Registration is open to startups and universities from across China and all Portuguese-speaking countries and regions and can be done via the same website. Each team must have a minimum of four members and a maximum of six (including team leader).
The 929 Challenge’s main institutional organiser and host is the Permanent Secretariat of Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) – known as Forum Macao – with the organising committee represented by City University of Macau, University of Macau, Macao University of Tourism, Macau University of Science and Technology, Macao Polytechnic University, University of Saint Joseph and the United Nations University Institute in Macau.
The startup competition is also supported by the Macau Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT), with sponsors including Alibaba Cloud and several of Macau’s integrated resort companies, among others.
Last year, the event’s university division was won by Guangdong University of Science and Technology, with University of Macau and Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University coming second and third, respectively, while all top three places in the startup division were won by teams from Portugal.
