Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced earlier this week the country plans to ban children from accessing social media by introducing such legislation sometime this year, with the exact age having yet to be determined.
The move follows similar actions by other governments in the Asia-Pacific region who seek to rein in online media, particularly social media platforms, due to concerns over addictive behaviour, online bullying, gambling and cybercrimes, according to various media reports.
