SJM 10th Asian Wushu Championships 2024 kicked off at the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau in Cotai on Wednesday with an opening ceremony and a luncheon to welcome the nearly 400 participating wushu athletes from 23 countries and regions across Asia-Pacific, marking the sporting event’s return after an eight-year hiatus following the 9th Asian Wushu Championships in Taoyuan back in 2016.
Held in celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th Anniversary of Macau Special Administrative Region, SJM 10th Asian Wushu Championships 2024 is held at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion through tomorrow.
The event is organised by the Wushu Federation of Asia (WFA), undertaken by the Wushu General Association of Macau (WGAM), co-organised and title-sponsored by SJM Resorts, also co-organised by Macau’s Sports Bureau (ID), as well as supported by the SAR’s Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) and the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO).
“The Asian Wushu Championships represent the highest level of wushu competition, second only to the Asian Games,” WFA President Chan Weng Kit said in the opening ceremony.
Chan added, “This event serves as a platform for Asian Wushu athletes to showcase their prowess, fostering cultural exchanges in the field of wushu and marking a significant milestone in the sport’s development in the Asian region.
Meanwhile, SJM also hosted “2023 SJM 11th Asian Junior Wushu Championships” last year.
