Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT) Director Yau Yun Wah attended the 81st session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) in Bangkok, Thailand from Monday through yesterday as a delegate of Macao, China.
Macau’s participation in the 81st UNESCAP session aimed to enhance the connection and exchange between the SAR and other UNESCAP members, according to DSEDT.
During the event, Yau delivered a keynote speech to introduce the successful implementation of “One Country, Two Systems” principle in the Macau SAR, give account of the opportunities brought by the Mainland and Macau Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA), emphasise Macau’s active participation in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA) and the Guangdong-Macau Intensive Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, share the achievements of Macau as a platform between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries, as well as highlight the Macau SAR Government’s measures for supporting the digital transformation of small and medium enterprises and the field of technology and innovation.
UNESCAP is the regional agency of the United Nations Secretariat for the Asia-Pacific region. Its mission is to assist members in resolving social and economic challenges through regional cooperation and integration. Macau has for a long time been participating in UNESCAP’s annual sessions as an associate member and actively supporting its work.
