Macau has made it to Skyscanner’s 2025 list of “Top 10 most accessible cities” in the world as well as “Top 9 walkable cities in Asia and South Asia”, which was published by the popular Edinburgh-based search aggregator and travel agency on its website on 20 December 2024 – the 25th anniversary of Macau’s return to the motherland.
For the Top 10 most accessible cities, Skyscanner looked at the cities’ wheelchair-friendly routes, giving the top place to Bursa (Turkey), followed by Siem Reap (Cambodia), Stuttgart (Germany), Monte Carlo (Monaco), Rome (Italy), Brasov (Romania), Reggio Calabria (Italy), Portsmouth (United Kingdom) and Panglao on Bohol Island in the Philippines, while Macau (China) places last.
Still, the list shows that Macau is Asia’s third most accessible city as well as the only accessible city in East Asia.
In the Top 9 walkable cities in Asia and South Asia, the SAR places 9th, with Skyscanner noting the city limits of less than 10 square kilometres and Macau having 517 attractions. Placing first and second on this list are Japanese cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, respectively, followed by Siem Reap (Cambodia), Sendai (Japan), Haiphong (Vietnam), Panglao on Bohol Island (Philippines), as well as Thiruvananthapuram and Coimbatore in India.
