The “Bank of China (Hong Kong) Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HK Section) Half Marathon 2024/25” will take place from 7:15 am to 11:30 am tomorrow and people planning to travel from Macau to Hong Kong or vice versa between this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon are advised to check the special traffic arrangements for the event.

Organised by Hong Kong, China Association of Athletics Affiliates (HKAAA), the event has attracted around 8,000 runners from around the world who will race along the world’s longest cross-sea bridge and tunnel.

The famous runners scheduled to join the event will include the likes of Yuki Kawauchi (Japan), Virginia Lo (Hong Kong SAR), Milkesa Mengesha Tolosa and Haftu Teklu Asefa (Ethiopia), as well as Patrick Kabirech Mosin and Sheila Chenlangat (Kenya), among others, according to a HKAAA press release.

HKAAA Chairman Kwan Kee said in a pre-race press conference held yesterday that the event “fully showcases Hong Kong’s strength as a premier sports event destination in Asia”.

He added: “The event plays a major role in further promoting Hong Kong as a leading city in Asia for hosting major marathon competitions.”

Kawauchi, who gained fame by winning the 2018 Boston Marathon as an amateur runner, said, “I am very much looking forward to not only participating in this exciting event but also seizing the opportunity to explore Hong Kong and personally experience its unique charm where Eastern and Western cultures converge.” (Yip Kiu)
