HK PERMANENT RESIDENTS NOW CAN REGISTER FOR IRIS BIOMETRICS FOR IMMIGRATION CLEARANCE IN MACAU

Hong Kong SAR permanent residents now can use iris recognition for immigration clearance in Macau SAR, with the iris biometrics’ registration for Hong Kong permanent resident ID card holders made available from 11 June, according to the Public Security Police Force. 

Hong Kong permanent residents aged 11 and above, who have registered for Macau’s automated passenger clearance service, may register their iris biometrics. Details can be found via this link. 

There are currently 81 iris automated channels located at Macau’s six checkpoints: Border Gate, Hong Kong-Zhuhai Macau Bridge (Hong Kong-Macau Hall), Airport, Taipa Ferry Terminal, Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal and Inner Harbour Ferry Terminal.

Out of these, 71 are equipped with the second-generation recognition device, which have added the face tracking function, enlarged screens, as well as improved voice functions.

Meanwhile, as of May 2025, there are currently some 300,000 Macau residents who have registered their iris biometrics for immigration clearance. – GNM
