Typhoon signal no. 1 will be issued in Macau in the early hours of Saturday as Tropical Storm Wipha moves closer to the area, with a high probability of signal no. 3 hoisted later on that day, according to the city’s Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG).
The bureau has pointed out on its website that Wipha may move further closer to the Pearl River Delta on Sunday, with its impact to Macau being most significant.
SMG has not indicated that signal no. 8 would be issued but the bureau will continue to “assess the probability of issuing a higher-level tropical cyclone signal and storm surge warning depending on Wipha’s distance from the Pearl River Delta and its intensity changes”.
Due to the uncertainty in Wipha’s track and intensity, the public is advised to pay attention to the latest weather information and take timely precautions against strong winds and flooding.
Meanwhile, the neighbouring SAR’s Hong Kong Observatory has been reported to consider issuing signal no. 8 in Hong Kong on Sunday as Wipha gets even closer to the area. – GNM
