Around 40,000 jeepneys and UV express units are expected to join a week-long strike in the Philippine capital of Manila from 6 March in a bid to pressure the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to take back the memorandum circular it released recently regarding a new deadline for the total phase out of traditional jeepneys, which was set for 30 June. In addition to Manila, some related protests will take place in Calabarzon and Central Luzon, according to some transport groups in the Philippines.
