CHEONG WENG CHON BECOMES LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY’S PRESIDENT

Cheong Weng Chon took office as the President of the 8th Legislative Assembly (AL) of the Macau Special Administrative Region on 16 October. 

The former secretary for administration and justice was born in Beijing in 1966. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Portuguese Language from the Beijing Foreign Studies University and a Bachelor of Law from the University of Macau (UM). 

Cheong’s (pictured, left) previous posts included director of the Legal Affairs Bureau (2000-2014) and Commissioner Against Corruption of the Commission Against Corruption (2014-2019). He served as the SAR’s secretary for administration and justice from December 2019 until this month. 

Meanwhile, Wong Sio Chak has assumed the post of Secretary for Administration and Justice, while Chan Tsz King and Tong Hio Fong became the city’s Secretary for Security and Prosecutor-General, respectively, the Macau SAR Government has announced. – GNM
