Seasoned politician José Maria Pereira Coutinho has received the highest number of votes in the 8th Legislative Assembly Election that took place last Sunday, the General Audit Committee of the Legislative Assembly Election announced earlier this week.
Among the total 175,272 ballots cast last Sunday for the direct election, 162,232 were valid votes, 5,987 were blank ballot papers and 7,053 were invalid.
The 14 members-elect of the 8th Legislative Assembly (AL) are:
Coutinho received a total of 43,367 votes, followed by Song Pek Kei with 29,464 votes, Lei Cheng I with 27,435 votes, Leong Hong Sai with 21,750 votes, Chan Hao Weng with 21,683.5 votes and Lao Chi Ngai with 21,464 votes.
Wong Kit Cheng got 18,752 votes, while Lei Leong Wong and Leong Sun Iok received 14,732 and 13,717.5 votes, respectively.
Ngan Iek Hang, Che Sai Wang and Lee Koi Ian each received over 10,000 votes, while Loi I Weng and Chan Lai Kei got 9,376 and 7,366 votes, respectively.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai has congratulated the 14 directly-elected legislators and 12 indirectly-elected legislators, also thanking all the registered voters who participated in the election, calling this year’s election a success. – GNM
