DSEC: 7,400 LOCAL RESIDENTS UNEMPLOYED AS OF FEBRUARY-APRIL PERIOD

The number of unemployed local residents in Macau throughout the period of February-April 2025 was 7,400, according to the city’s Statistics and Census Service (DSEC). 

Among the unemployed residents searching for a new job, mostly were previously engaged in the gaming, construction and retail trade sectors. 

Based on the information from DSEC, both the SAR’s general unemployment rate (1.9 per cent) and local residents’ unemployment rate (2.5 per cent) during the period remained the same as the previous period of January-March 2025. 

The labour force in Macau totalled 380,600, an increase of 1,500 compared to the previous period, with a total employment of 373,200, which was 1,400 more than the previous period. 

The number of employed local residents rose by 1,700 to 281,900. 

Meanwhile, the general underemployment rate (1.4 per cent) and the local residents’ underemployment rate (1.8 per cent) each rebounded by 0.2 percentage points from the previous period, with the number of underemployed residents increasing by 700 individuals to 5,200, mostly working in the construction and retail trade sectors. – GNM
