An indigenous Igorot woman named Alice Baguitan from La Trinidad, Benguet province, the Philippines recently received the Golden Kabayang Award from La Trinidad’s Local Government Unit (LGU) for her “exemplary acts of integrity and values” after she returned a bag of cash worth 2.7 million Philippine pesos to the owner, according to various media reports.
The 37-year-old vegetable supplier returned the money to a woman who left her bag with the cash in a restaurant in the Illocoz Norte city of Laoag, where Baguitan was also dining while delivering vegetables to her customers at a wet market there, according to a report by Philippine Daily Inquirer.
Baguitan (pictured) has been reported to say, “There are more blessings I receive from the Lord when I do the right thing,” in response to her decision to return the money. (Yip Kiu)
