In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of the Macau SAR’s establishment, the “Greater Bay Area Cultural Heritage Forum” was inaugurated at the Macao Cultural Centre’s (CCM) Small Auditorium on 31 October.
Organised by Macau’s Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) and co-organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Guangdong Province as well as Hong Kong SAR Government’s Development Bureau, the forum – which concluded yesterday – was supported by MGM.
The forum focused on “the integration and sharing of cultural heritage in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area”, featuring the participation of representatives of the GBA cities, as well as experts and scholars in the field of cultural heritage from home and abroad.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Macau’s Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Ao Ieong U, Deputy Director of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR Bai Bing, Counselor and Director of the Department of Information and Public Diplomacy of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macao SAR Gao Yuan, Hong Kong SAR Secretary for Development Bernadette Linn, Deputy Head of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangdong Province Long Jiayou, IC President Leong Wai Man, as well as MGM China Holdings Limited President and Executive Director Kenneth Feng.
During the Forum, the launch ceremony of the “Platform for the Cultural Relics Trail of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area” – which is the first cross-disciplinary cultural relics trail of the GBA – was also held. The website is incorporated in the website “Culture and Tourism Information of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao”.
The first trail is themed with historical buildings related to education, including 99 historical buildings related to education in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau, creating an online platform for the public to learn about the cultural heritage mechanisms of Guangdong and the two SARs, which are closely related to one another.
In the future, the three regions will continue to create more cultural relic trails with regional characteristics through the platform, promoting the coordinated development of the GBA’s cultural heritage.
