The Portuguese Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (APAVT) announced on 1 December that Macau will be the “APAVT Preferred International Destination in 2024”. The announcement was made during the Portuguese travel group’s 48th National Congress in Porto, which was also attended by a Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) delegation headed by MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes.

Meanwhile, the APAVT’s 50th National Congress is scheduled to be held in Macau in 2025. It will be the sixth time Macau hosts the congress – the last time being in 2017.

“The designation of ‘Preferred International Destination in 2024’ presents an excellent opportunity for Macau to expand visitor source markets in Europe and continue with the work we started this year to relaunch visitor flows from Portugal, paving the way for the success of the National Congress of APAVT in 2025 in Macau,” Senna Fernandes said at the Porto congress as she thanked the Portuguese travel group for the designation.

APAVT President Pedro Costa Ferreira said: “We could not be more pleased to be returning to Macau, a unique destination, standing as an example of coexistence of cultures and shared history. It will certainly be an opportunity to increase travel flows between Portugal and Macau in particular, and with [mainland] China in general.”
