Under a new deal between authorities in Macau and mainland China, local permanent residents holding a valid Macau driving licence for light vehicles will be able to obtain a mainland China driving licence without having to sit for a test starting 16 May, Transport Bureau (DSAT) Director Kelvin Lam has announced. All they need to do is present their original valid Macau driving licences and ID cards, a medical certificate and a headshot photo at a department of motor vehicles (DMV) in mainland China.

From the same date, holders of paper driving licence from mainland China can drive light vehicles for 14 days upon entering Macau without the need to obtain a local driving licence, while those intending to continue driving after 14 days will be allowed to drive in Macau for one year after registering with the Public Security Police (PSP) Traffic Department, according to a report by The Macau Post Daily.
