Macau’s total population at the end of 2024 stood at 688,300, representing a year-on-year increase of 0.7 per cent or about 4,600 people, mainly due to a rise in the number of non-resident workers living in the SAR, according to data from the city’s Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
Based on the data, females and males accounted for 53.7 and 46.3 per cent of the total population, respectively. Meanwhile, 12.5 per cent of the city’s total population comprised youths aged 0-14, totalling 85,900, while the elderly people aged 65 and above constituted 14.6 per cent of the whole population, numbering some 100,200 people.
The local population excluding the city’s non-resident workers and the non-local students living in Macau decreased by 0.4 per cent year-on-year to 568,700. Compared to the previous year, live births in 2024 decreased by a total of 105 to 3,607, while the city’s mortality dropped by 504 to 2,477.
