MACAU’S UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IN Q1 INCREASES BY 0.2 PCT COMPARED TO PREVIOUS QUARTER

Macau’s general unemployment rate and local residents’ unemployment rate in the first quarter of this year both increased by 0.2 per cent – to 1.9 and 2.5 per cent, respectively – compared to the previous quarter, according to data from the city’s Statistics and Census Service (DSEC). 

Meanwhile, the general and local residents’ underemployment rates each decreased by 0.3 per cent to 1.2 and 1.6 per cent, respectively. 

The city’s total employment in this year’s first quarter stood at 371,800, a decrease of 6,500 compared to the previous quarter, while the number of employed residents in the first quarter of 2025 decreased by 5,800 to 280,200 compared to the final quarter of 2024.
