Mainland China’s population dropped last year for the first time in over 60 years to 1.411 billion, a year-on-year decrease of around 850,000, the country’s National Bureau of Statistics announced earlier this week. Analysts point to the increasing cost of living, as well as more women in the workforce and seeking higher education, as reasons behind the slowdown, The Jakarta Post reported.
