Melco Resorts & Entertainment officially opened its Studio City Cinema, home to the first Dolby Cinema in Macau and Hong Kong, to the public on 26 June, with the cinema’s opening ceremony taking place a day before.
The opening ceremony was attended by Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Broadway Theatre Company Limited Chief Executive Officer Tessa Lau, as well as Melco’s Chief Advisor Kent Wong, Board Director Clarence Chung and Executive Vice President Akiko Takahashi, along with Kevin Benning, Senior Vice President, Property General Manager of Studio City, Melco Resorts & Entertainment – among others.
As part of the opening event, Studio City Cinema presented an exclusive “Director’s Cut” screening of Hong Kong blockbuster “Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In”, with the film’s co-producer Kinnie Cheung and some of the cast members also attending the opening ceremony, including Louis Koo, Richie Jen, Raymond Lam, Tony Wu and German Cheong.
“By investing in world-class entertainment and premium amenities, Melco is demonstrating its dedication to further enhancing Macau’s appeal as a world-class tourism and leisure destination,” Benning said. “The opening of the Studio City Cinema underlines the company’s efforts in enriching Macau’s entertainment landscape and supporting the city’s economic diversification”.
Also attending the opening event was Alex Or, director of Content Relations, Greater China, Dolby Laboratories, who explained Dolby Cinema features Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for an “unparalleled combination of sound and visual wonder in a theatre designed by Dolby to deliver the most immersive experience possible”.
Offering the top screen and sound quality available in Macau, the 770-seat capacity cineplex comprises 9 houses, including 5 VIP suites and a screening house with exclusively paired seating. Other houses boast best-in-class features including RealLaser 4K projection, with three houses supporting Dolby Atmos, to offer the most intimate and indulgent viewing experience to every guest.
