The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT) represented Macau, China as a Guest Economy in the 63rd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Tourism Working Group (TWG) Meeting held in the Peruvian city of Cusco on 6-7 June.
During the two-day meeting, the tourism office presented an update about the tourism industry in Macau and exchanged with representatives from other Asia Pacific economies, helping to raise the SAR’s profile internationally.
The Macau delegation was led by MGTO Deputy Director Ricky Hoi.
The APEC TWG Meeting also featured presentations on projects related to the four priority areas of the current APEC TWG Strategic Plan: Digital Transformation, Human Capital Development, Travel Facilitation and Competitiveness, as well as Sustainable Tourism and Economic Growth.
In addition, there were panel debates, along with discussion on the new Strategic Plan (2025-2029), among other sessions, allowing Macau delegates to exchange and have an update on the attending economies’ tourism situations, as well as the activities of the APEC TWG.
Macau SAR was granted the status of Guest Economy in the APEC TWG in 2001, since which the local tourism office and the DSEDT have been attending the TWG meetings regularly. The APEC TWG was formed in 1991 for tourism administrators of APEC Economies to share information and exchange views, serving as a platform that supports cooperation and development of various destinations in tourism and trade.
