The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) will revitalise Taipa Market in Rua de Regedor soon with multiple seminars having been organised to introduce the plan to representatives of the Consultative Committee on Municipal Affairs, Islands District Community Service Consultative Council, neighbourhood associations in the district, food and beverage sector, industry and commerce sector, cultural and creative sector, as well as youth associations.
The seminars were also held to listen to the participants’ opinions on the development and positioning and space planning of the Taipa Market’s revitalisation, as well as on the business environment in the community and the public tender details.
Given the advantage of its location in a popular tourist area, IAM hopes to organically integrate the Taipa Market with the Old Taipa Village business district in terms of people’s livelihood, community functions and cultural and tourism elements, and make the best of public spaces and community resources for complementary development, according to the bureau.
The consultations with various sectors have resulted in the plan to add the elements of “gastronomy + culture and creativity” to the traditional market, with 20 light food and cultural and creative stalls to be available for public tender.
After the revitalisation, the Taipa Market’s ground floor will continue to sell fresh and live food as well as traditional groceries, while the light food and cultural and creative stalls will be launched on the first floor for public tender. The smallest area of those stalls is 8.1 square metres and the largest is 30.9 square metres.
In addition, a dining area will also be added on the first floor. In addition, a café space is added on the rooftop to provide a relaxing and cozy environment, according to IAM.
Moreover, the bureau will organise briefing sessions for those interested in the public tender to explain the assessment criteria and important points for compiling the tender proposal, with the revitalisation work scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of this year and the stalls to begin trial operation in the same quarter.
