The Sino-Phil Asia International Peace Awards Foundation Inc. recently bestowed awards to 17 individuals from around the world for their peace and care efforts and contributions in various fields.
The awards ceremony was held in Manila, Philippines on 7 February, according to a report by Macau News Agency.
According to its website, the Manila-headquartered foundation headed by local medical professional and Australian Chamber of Commerce Macau Chairman Billy Chan (pictured, right) is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all humanity
It was founded by healthcare professionals, academics, artists, journalists, policymakers and philanthropists from around the world with the mission of pooling their collective resources to empower leaders of peace from distinguished individuals to institutions, the website points out.
Each year, the foundation’s panel of independent jurists from the region and globally choose from a variety of significant categories to identify exceptional peacemakers through their outstanding achievements in their respective fields of expertise, including arts, education, environmental responsibility, healthcare and medicine, journalism, performing arts, philanthropy, public service, sports, as well as science and technology.
This year’s laureates come from Australia, China, Czech Republic, France, Hong Kong SAR, Italy, Norway, Philippines, Rwanda, Turkey, United Kingdom and United States. Among them are Prince Emmanuel Bushayija, claimant to the historical Kingdom of Rwanda, former Czech Minister of Culture Antonín Staněk, as well as well-known Filipino broadcast journalist Jessica Soho.
Meanwhile, on the sidelines of this year’s event, the foundation also conducted its largest gift-giving charity in the Philippine capital to 300 underprivileged families.
