SOME 70 SESSIONS OF ACTIVITIES TO BE FEATURED IN ‘6TH ENCOUNTER IN MACAO – ARTS AND CULTURAL FESTIVAL BETWEEN CHINA AND THE PORTUGUESE-SPEAKING COUNTRIES’ 

The “6th Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries” will be held from October to December this year, featuring 70 sessions of different activities in the programme and nearly 700 artists and performers.  

Among the activities will be the “Annual Arts Exhibition between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries”, “China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries Film Festival”, “Tito Paris Concert with the Macao Chinese Orchestra”, “Chinese and Portuguese Picture Book Fair”, “GEG Traditional Music and Dance Performance in the Community”, as well as some wine tasting workshops. 

In addition, the event is held in parallel with the “2024 GEG Lusofonia Festival”, according to a press conference held at the Taipa Houses Museum, where the annual festival is held, on Wednesday afternoon to present this year’s programme for the 6th Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries. 

The two-month event is organised by Macau’s Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) and supported by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM), TDM and Air Macau. 

Wednesday’s press conference was attended by IC President Leong Wai Man, MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes and IAM Member of the Administration Committee on Municipal Affairs Isabel Celeste Jorge, among others. 

The programme presentation also featured a performance by Macau band Goa Groovie (pictured), who will perform at this year’s Lusofonia Festival, which will take place from 25-27 October and 1-3 November.

“This is a very important event because of the opportunity that Macau has in bringing other different cultures through it, especially from the Portuguese-speaking countries,” Goa Groovie band’s vocalist Elias Colaço told Good News Macau after Wednesday’s press conference. 

He added, “And the [cultural] collaboration between the Portuguese-speaking countries and China is a very important and nice experience, to share knowledge, and with both sides learning and getting something new from one another.”
